THE WORK OF MAN

THE WORK OF MAN is a series of graphite drawings, all of which feature or focus on birds.  So why is the series called “The Work of Man”?  Rather than answer this question directly, let me lure you into an exploration of your own.  How does a bird relate to a man-made environment?  What was the intended purpose of the human construction?  Why does the series include drawings of birds in their natural habitat, with no work of man in sight?  Considering that a bird is an ancient symbol for the soul, what resonance do these drawings have for us?  What affinities between birds and human beings do they evoke?  What contrasts?  What human potential?
